The Lorelai is a black maxi dress cut plain on purpose: square neckline, thin straps, a straight fall to the floor and a subtle sheen across the whole of it.
The straps are thin and adjustable, so the height of that square neckline is set by the wearer. Inside the bust there is a rubber grip, which is the detail that lets a strappy dress stay where it was put. An invisible zip with a hook and eye clasp closes the back, and a split at the back opens the hem. The dress is lined, in a 95% and 5% elastane blend.
Plain and floor-length is the most useful thing a maxi dress can be, because it takes direction from whatever is worn with it. A jacket makes it formal, bare shoulders make it a summer evening. The sheen is the only decoration it needs, so keep everything else flat.
